Cranbrook Historic Walking Tours
Join the Cranbrook History Centre this July and August for a leisurely walk around historic Cranbrook and learn about what’s made this place the centre of the East Kootenay for over a century!
We offer two different tours this summer, the downtown walking tour and the historic house walking tour. Both hour-long strolls will take you through history and back again, exploring the places and the people who made Cranbrook what it is today.
Every year we collaborate with a local downtown business to offer our Walking Tours visitors a treat! This year, we’re partnering with Soulfood.

2021 Summer Walking Tours : July and August
Historic Downtown Walking Tour
Thursdays | 7:00 – 8:00pm MST
The tour will depart outside Cranbrook Photo at the foot of Baker street, and visitors will walk throughout the downtown core. You will learn about the many historic buildings that once populated Cranbrook’s historic downtown, some that are not longer present today. The tour concludes outside the Mount Baker Hotel, a restored 1923 building that now houses a local restaurant and our 2021 walking tour partner, Soulfood, and the renovated hotel. Tickets are $7.50 and can be purchased online, below, or in person at the museum.
*New* Historic House Walking Tour | Saturdays | 10:30 – 11:30am MST
Our historic House Walking Tour will depart from the farmer’s market at 10th Avenue and 2nd Street South at the end of Rotary Park. From there, visitors will embark on a path through Cranbrook’s historic house neighbourhood. The tour focuses early settlers in Cranbrook, why they came to Cranbrook, and how they made this town their home. The tour finishes at Baker Park, outside Colonel Baker’s house, the longest standing settler home in Cranbrook, and home to the man who founded the city. Tickets are $7.50 and can be purchased online, below, or in person at the museum.
Thank you to Soulfood for their partnership in this year’s Summer Walking Tours. Soulfood is offering attendees of both our Downtown and Historic House Walking tour a free drink with the purchase of an entrée when they dine at the locally owned restaurant.
