Health in Space: Daring to Explore

(Science – Earth and Space)

A 1-1.5-hour interactive, guided tour for groups (maximum one class size) of the Health in Space: Daring to Explore Travelling Exhibit offered Feb.1-April 19, 2025. The program consists of an introduction, 6 stations, 1 demonstration and 2 hands-on experiments.

Objectives:

At the end of this program, students will have been exposed to the following concepts:

  • Space explorers are aware of the dangers in their work, and take steps to mitigate them.
  • Astronauts are often the subject of experiments studying the effects of Space on the human body.
  • The results of these experiments have benefits for people on Earth.

Students will also learn more about the contributions of Canadians to Space exploration, and about the variety of potential future careers in aerospace.

Curricular and Competency Connections: Space is a theme relevant to elementary students across Canada.

This program aligns with the BC Science Curriculum, most specifically with:

Grade 6 Sciences: Earth and Space

              Questioning and Predicting: Make observations in familiar or unfamiliar contexts; identify questions to answer or problems to solve through scientific inquiry; make predications about the findings of their inquiry.         

              Planning and Conducting: Observe, measure, and record data, using appropriate tools, including digital technologies.

              Content: The force of gravity; gravity is the force attraction between objects that pulls all objects toward each other.
