Reopening with Care 2020
We Missed You!
The Cranbrook History Centre is Open
Updated: November 16, 2020
We’re looking forward to welcoming you back to the Cranbrook History Centre. The museum is resuming operations and re-opening in a thoughtful, phased way, informed by the advice of the public health authority. Our team has been working hard to ensure the safest conditions for our staff, volunteers, and visitors.
You will notice some changes the next time you visit.
Hours of Operation
The museum will have revised hours of operation: 10am-3pm Tuesday – Saturday, CLOSED to the public on Sunday and Monday through October 2020 – May 2021.
Phased Re-opening
The museum is taking a phased approach to re-opening the galleries and programs
June 2: The Cranbrook Galleries, Model Railway, Paleontology Gallery, Royal Alexandra Hall and Restoration Gallery will be open.
July 2: Tours of our Historic Railcars will resume with enhanced safety measures in place. Check back for more details later in the month.
Membership
Thank you to our members for your on-going support. You are so important to us! You can now renew or purchase a new membership online Here.
Entry
Museum visitor numbers will be limited. This means you may have to wait a few minutes before you are permitted to enter. Thank you for your patience!
Physical Distancing
The Visitor Information desk is now protected by a divider to follow physical distancing guidelines. Please follow the posted information when you visit and respect the physical distancing measures in place.
Look for signs and direction on new visitor pathways through the museum. These new pathways will allow for physical distancing and flow through the galleries. There is also new guidelines on using the elevator, stairwell, and washrooms. Please follow the directions of staff and respect the spaces of other visitors to the museum.
Face Masks
Wearing a cloth mask or medical mask inside the History Centre is now mandatory. All museum staff have chosen to protect themselves by wearing a mask at all times. Wearing a mask can help in containing your own droplets and protect others but it alone will not protect you from COVID-19. Any mask, no matter how efficient at filtration or how good the seal, will have minimal effect if it is not used together with other preventive measures, such as frequent hand washing and physical distancing.
Please treat people wearing masks with respect. If you cannot wear a mask for medical reasons please identify yourself to the front desk staff on entering the museum.
Health and Safety
Your health and safety are important to us. In order to ensure we are doing everything we can to make your visit enjoyable, we have introduced some new cleaning processes and procedures:
- A barrier has been installed at the front desk to ensure social distancing.
- All front of house staff have been provided with additional cleaning supplies.
- There are enhanced cleaning measures for all high touch areas.
- The elevator will be used by one person at a time.
- Washrooms have health procedures indicated and capacity limits. Please ensure you continue to follow proper hygiene protocols and wash your hands regularly.
- Hand sanitizer will be available in public areas.
- We encourage you to visit us in your family groups and to not bring out-of-town visitors with you at this time.
- We will only be accepting Debit and Credit at this time
If you are sick, please stay home. We look forward to you visiting when you are well again!
The Archives
The Archives will be closed to the public until further notice. Our Archives Volunteer and Staff will continue to answer all research requests when possible.
Rentals
In order to abide by the Public Health directives on gatherings, rentals are restricted to a 50 person maximum and physical distancing measures must be in place. Please contact our Business Manager for more information: office@cranbrookhistorycentre.com
Tours and Other Programs
As the Cranbrook History Centre re-opens and we adjust to a “new normal”, we are considering the advice and requirements of government and health authorities. Unfortunately, this means we are unable to host large groups, or provide many of our in-person programs until 2021.
Please see ‘Events & Programs’ for our current programs.
Tours of the historic railcar collection are now open with safety protocols in place. The maximum group size through the Trains is 6. Masking, gloving and social distancing is required as the materials in the railcars do not allow for harsh disinfectants.
Thank you for your patience at this time of adjustment.
