New Specimen Added to Our Paleontology Collection

Visit the museum’s Ted Fielder Room to learn about the animals and plants that populated the present day East Kootenay region over 500 million years ago.

Amateur paleontologist, Chris Jenkins, discovered this specimen of ORYGMASPIS SPINULA trilobite, a spectacular new find from the East Kootenay fossil beds. The pure crystal preservation is unique to Paleontology; it gives science a great look into the structure of trilobites Mr. Jenkins has donated the trilobite to the Cranbrook History Centre. The CHC will create a suitable display case that will be available for viewing at History Centre and other locations. ON DISPLAY NOW

Our newest specimen, thanks to Mr. Jenkins is an ORYGMASPIS SPINULA trilobite, a spectacular new find from the East Kootenay fossil beds. The pure crystal preservation is unique to Paleontology; it gives science a great look into the structure of trilobites.

Mr. Jenkins has donated the trilobite to the Cranbrook History Centre and Teck Oil Ltd. has given us a display case to exhibit this in the museum so that visitors can appreciate the translucent nature of this new discovery.
