Important Dates

October 2023

  • Registration opens
  • October 20 – BCHF Online Workshop: Timelines, how to set up your students, curriculum links, and more. (Email programs@cranbrookhistorycentre.com to request the video.)

December 2023

  • December 8 – Heritage Fair Information Session @ The Cranbrook History Centre (12:30-1:30pm; lunch will be provided). Please register for this free event, so we know how much food to provide.

January 2024

  • BCHF Online Workshop: Starting Heritage Fair, How do you get your student(s) started on their projects? (Check back to register.)
  • January 26Registration closes
  • Book a field trip for your class at the Cranbrook History Centre and/or visit our archives!

February 2024

  • Students begin their research. Here is a list of local research resources. (Updated resources coming soon.)
  • Students write their first drafts.
  • BCHF Online Workshop: Questions So Far, What questions do you and your student(s) have? How is it going? (Check back to register.)
  • February 9 – Teachers will confirm how many projects per class may be eligible for the Regional Fair. (A survey link will be provided.)

March 2024

  • BCHF Online Workshop: Wrapping Up Research, How do you go from research to project? (Check back to register.)
  • Students design their project displays and practice interviews.

April 2024

  • BCHF Online Workshop: Presentation & Interviews, Preparing your student(s) to present and be interviewed. (Check back to register.)
  • Students present their projects in a classroom or school fair.
  • Teachers evaluate the projects. Teachers may use the 2023 EKHF rubric or develop their own. A 2024 Rubric is in the works! (Reminder: Teachers are responsible for their own assessments. The EKHF judges’ rubrics will remain in possession of the Cranbrook History Centre.)

May 2024 – The East Kootenay Heritage Fair

  • May 1– Last day for teachers to register selected student projects and the group agreement form to the Cranbrook History Centre.
  • Students complete the Project Summary Form to set in front of their projects at the Regional Heritage Fair.
  • May 9 – Drop off and set up projects (3:00-5:30pm)
  • May 10 – East Kootenay Regional Heritage Fair (9:00am-2:25pm)
  • May 11 – Open House & Award Ceremony (10:00am-12:00pm)
  • May 11 – Students take home their projects (12:00pm). (Selected projects, with permission, will
    remain on display at the Cranbrook History Centre.)
  • May 29Ed Talk (6:00-7:00pm): Several students will be invited to share their projects and learning journey through a short presentation to a community audience in the Royal Alexandra Hall.

June 2024

  • Teachers and students complete a Feedback Survey (link to be added at a later date).
  • Provincial Fair delegates and the teacher chaperone register for the Provincial Fair.
  • BCHF online information session for Provincial Fair (date and time TBD).

July 2024

  • July 2-5 – Provincial Fair (3 students, 3 days, Victoria)
