September 2024

  • Registration opens

October 2024

Teachers can register to receive a Heritage Fair Classroom Kit.

Teachers can register for a professional development series: What’s the Story: Supporting Inquiry through Heritage Fairs.

November 2024

  • Schedule a Meeting (with program coordinator and committee liaisons): Information Sessions for Principals, Teacher Reps, and Teachers.

January 2025

  • January 31Registration closes
  • Book a field trip for your class at the Cranbrook History Centre and/or visit our archives!

February 2025

  • Introduce the Heritage Fair to your class. Here is a presentation teachers can use.
  • Students begin their research. Here is a list (with links) of research and classroom Resources.
  • Students write their first drafts.
  • February 27 – East Kootenay Heritage Fair (EKHF) committee will confirm with teachers how many projects per class may be eligible for the Regional Fair.

March 2025

  • Students design their projects and practice interviews.
  • March 6 – Teachers must confirm class/school fair dates.

April 2025

  • Students present their projects in a classroom or school fair.
  • Teachers evaluate the projects. Teachers may use the EKHF rubric or develop their own.
    (Reminder: Teachers are responsible for their own assessments. The EKHF judges’ rubrics will remain in possession of the Cranbrook History Centre.)
  • April 30– Last day for teachers to submit the number of qualifying student projects to the Cranbrook History Centre (a form will be emailed).

May 2025 – The East Kootenay Heritage Fair

  • May 8 – Drop off and set up projects (3:00-5:30pm) with their Project Summary Form (for each project) and Group Agreement Form (for group projects)
  • May 9 – East Kootenay Regional Heritage Fair (9:00am-2:00pm)
  • May 10 – Open House & Award Ceremony (10:00am-12:00pm)
  • May 10 – Students take home their projects (12:00pm). (Selected projects, with permission, will
    remain on display at the Cranbrook History Centre.)

June 2025

  • Teachers and students complete a Feedback Survey (open May 9 – end of June, 2025)
  • Families of Provincial delegates (the winners of the Regional Fair) and the teacher chaperone register for the BC Heritage Provincial Fair. (All communication, from this point forward, happens directly between the BCHF Society and the chaperone, students and their families.)
  • BC Heritage Fair online information session for Provincial Fair (date and time TBD).

July 2025
