Paleontology Lab Visit

September 28, 2021 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

The Cranbrook History Centre Paleontology Field School features 4-days of programming around building amateur paleontology skills.

The Paleontology Lab visit is the fourth and final day of programming, following the program’s opening Lecture and Reception, and two full days out in the field.

The lab consists of a visit to Chris New’s personal Fossil Preparation Laboratory. Chris New is a local paleontologist who has expertise collecting fossils in the Cranbrook region. His lab is the site where many fossils now housed in the museum collection were prepared.

During the visit, Chris will provide you with a personal tour of his lab and discuss the different tools and techniques used to prepare his outstanding specimens.

Because of the lab size, participants will register for a 30-minute time slot. A museum staff member will be present throughout all of the lab visits to ensure that safety and public health protocols are being followed.

Registration for the Paleontology Lab visit is included in the purchase of a Field School date in the program. Spaces are limited for the Field School, so please register early to ensure yourself a spot.
