Worldbuilding encompasses not only the reality that your characters find themselves in\, but also the effect of that reality on their inner lives: their beliefs\, cultural assumptions and even what they might know about the place they live in. \nRegardless of the genre you may write\, worldbuilding is essential for helping your novel\, short story or screenplay come alive on the page. \nCome join Cranbrook-raised author Andrew Boden for an evening of fictional worldbuilding. Andrew will introduce you to some critical tools to help you build your fictional world and help you plan the “where” of your next fiction project. SUMMARY:Ed Talk: Puppets\, Performance\, and the Pursuit of Art in Community
DESCRIPTION:Join us in the Royal Alexandra Hall on Wednesday\, August 28th at 7:00pm to be educated\, entertained and inspired by artist Marcel Dou Roig\, the man behind the “iconic elephant mascot Ed” showcased during Ed Fest 2023! \nMarcel will be sharing his process and passion for art through a presentation and improv performance\, including dancing\, painting\, and playing piano! \nFREE REGISTRATION \n  \nArtist’s BIO \nMarcel Dou Roig has been a performer for 25 years. His initial interest and pursuit of the arts began in his native hometown Sant Celoni\, a small town near Barcelona Spain. He was introduced to the stage theatre in his teens\, where he performed in several productions in the community theatre until he decided to move to Barcelona and become a professional actor. During his time in Barcelona\, he studied theatre\, dance\, and voice technique while performing in professionally. He was professionally showing in theatre\, cinema\, television\, and a variety of different street performances\, from tap dancing\, to street puppets.  With the company Sarruga\, he travelled Europe and South America building and performing with street puppets. These giant/oversized animals and insects were showcased in the streets of cities and towns for festivals and festivities. During this time Marcel was able to learn the mechanics and staging of these fantastic shows during his time with them. \nMarcel spent several years performing as a professional with different companies. He also created his own shows and performances while in Barcelona. But\, he eventually moved to New York City to further his learning. He studied dance and theatre in all capacities\, he also created his own dance company and performed some of his creations in NYC. Marcel has always valued learning about all different types of arts and dedicated himself to performing with different companies. One of which was focused on dancing with horses. It was a site specific company that made dance compositions with horses utilizing horsemanship techniques. It was  a unique show and experience because it travelled to different locations using different horses each time. To further develop his horsemanship\, Marcel moved to Florida\, were he studied  under very prestigious horse trainers in the show Arabian Nights in Orlando as a performer and horseback rider. \nWhile in Florida Marcel met his partner and they both moved to Canada.  Marcel took some time off from performing while starting a family. Now Marcel and his family call Cranbrook home as of October 2022. He is now ready to continue and build upon his passion in the arts. He has recently performed in the latest Key City Theatre production “Cabaret\,” and is thrilled to share his passion for the arts with this wonderful community.

DESCRIPTION:SHOW DETAILS:\nThe show is approximately 2 hours long plus a short intermission.\nDoors will open at 1:15 pm\nThe show will start at 2:00 pm.\n \nAudience members may take photos/videos.\n \nSweet Music Man is a salute to Kenny Rogers and highlights a lot of Kenny’s hit songs. It would be impossible to include all of his hits\, there are so many! “Sweet Music Man” was pretty much the only song that Kenny wrote\, and some would say it is autobiographical. It was also the song that several country music superstars sang as a dedication to Kenny after he passed in August 2020. I met Kenny a couple of times\, and he told a client in New York City that of all the Kenny Rogers impersonators\, I was his favourite.\n \nThe show also features Nashville Recording Artist Pam Ferens. DESCRIPTION:The Cranbrook History Centre will be hosting a Trivia 80’s Night on Wednesday\, June 7th\, MC’d by our Programs and Events assistant Travis. Tickets will be $40 per team of 4. We encourage people to create teams in advance\, so make sure to give your team an awesome name!  \nThe Night will include 50 questions divided into 10 topics. These topics are Local\, Canadian\, and World History; Geography\, Nature\, Music\, Television\, Movies\, Literature\, and Railways. There will be more nights after\, with each night covering trivia themed to different decades.  \nAlso\, dress up in 80’s garb to prove you’re the best around! \nDoors open at 5:30 and the competition begins at 6.   \nThis is an alcohol event so ID is required to purchase \nRegister – OPEN!

DESCRIPTION:The Cranbrook History Centre is pleased to offer a brunch to its Mother’s Day offerings\, the morning will have tea and a brunch in the Royal Alexandra Hall and our afternoon offering will be High Tea in the historic Argyle train car. \n  \nRoyal Alexandra Hall – Enjoy the elegant décor of the 1906 hall which was built in Winnipeg. The Royal Alexandra\, a rare example of Edwardian architecture amongst the CP hotels\, was considered the social centerpiece of Winnipeg for nearly sixty years before its closure in 1967. Four years later it was demolished with only the Grand Cafe of the hotel\, carefully disassembled into hundreds of pieces and stored in a semi-trailer\, surviving. \n \nThe Royal Alexandra Hall’s 10 am seating offers:\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBrunch consisting of Ham\, Sausage\, Hash browns a Pancake Station\, Scrambled eggs/Omelet station\, Chicken tenders\, Baked mac & cheese\, Roast beef\, Potatoes\, Veggies\, 2 salads\, Fruit cocktail\, Muffins\, Scones\, Bagels and a Dessert table!\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMusic\nTea and beverages\n\n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nArgyle Train Car – 1 of 7 cars of the 1929 “Trans-Canada Limited” a classic “Jazz Era Art Deco” design will have you tossed back in time as you enjoy High Tea on the historic car. \nThe Argyle’s 2:30 pm seating offers:\n\nTea\nFinger Snacks\nDesserts\n\n\n\n*changes to offerings and prices may change over time\nMother’s Day Tickets HERE!\nCharitable donation receipt will be issued\, value of $20.00 with every ticket purchased.\nFollow our social media or newsletter to get updates.
